Bibury 1 Avonvale Utd 3
An outstanding performance from league leaders Avonvale at second placed Bibury saw them move seven points clear at the top of CDFL 1.
Perhaps unsurprisingly it was the home side that started stronger but although enjoying more possession were unable to do more than create a couple of half chances. Slowly but surely the visitors began to impose themselves on the game and by the end of the first half had gained the upper hand.
Beginning the second half as they had ended the first the Vale took the game to Bibury and it was they who created the first clear cut chance when Tom Blackah, put through by his brother George, hit the post. In a game of few chances the visitors wondered just how costly this miss might prove to be. Their concerns proved to be unfounded as minutes later Avonvale produced a devastating spell of football which saw them score three times in ten minutes. First the tireless Blackah showed his confidence hadn’t been dented by the earlier miss when he pounced on a mistake in the home defence and confidently slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. Within minutes Blackah added his second with an excellent volley from twenty yards. A powerful header from Sam Jenner made it three nil.
Bibury pulled a goal back in the dying minutes but it proved to be too little too late.
Some excellent individual performances none better than man of the match Chrissy Andrews.
Shurdington Rovers Reserves 2 Avonvale Utd III 4
Avonvale returned to the top of the table with a result that flattered the home side. Vale played the better football throughout, with Graham Crabbe scoring on his debut to send them into the lead early in the first half. The home side were fortunate to be awarded a penalty not long after this, which they put away to draw level. Adam Drury put the visitors back in the lead spotting the keeper off his line, shot from 30 yards. A truly rare goal from Ashley Hedges came just before half time, as he headed in from a corner. Vale looked totally in control as the game neared its end, especially when sub Tye Farthing worked the ball well to send Adam Drury through to net his second of the game. Another controversial decision followed as Shurdington were awarded yet another debatable penalty in the dying minutes of the game. Vale thirds have a week off next week, but will be back in league action on 12th December.
